Charles Thompson

1/Lt  Charles T Thompson – 393rd Infantry Regiment Chaplain

Rev. Thompson’s journey embodies the call to serve. Despite being older and exempt from the draft, he answered a higher calling and became a chaplain. He walked alongside our soldiers through thick and thin, sharing their struggles and victories.

His valor knew no bounds, as evident by the Purple Heart and Bronze Star he received. Notably, his Bronze Star was awarded for a selfless act – choosing to stand with his comrades in the foxholes when he was not obligated to do so. A true testament to his character and devotion.

Rev. Thompson’s humility was as striking as his courage. Though reticent about his experiences, he did share one poignant tale. A train car filled with abandoned POWs called for a preacher, and he answered the call. On the side of a hill, his words resonated, providing hope in a time of darkness.

TO EVERY MAN UPON THIS EARTH
DEATH COMETH SOON OR LATE.
AND HOW CAN MAN DIE BETTER
THAN FACING FEARFUL ODDS,
FOR THE ASHES OF HIS FATHERS
AND THE TEMPLES OF HIS GODS
